Meet Dale
Dale is a sweet, sensitive 1.5 - 2 year old terrier mix that weighs 53 lbs. He is at his full grown weight and should not get any larger. This cuddly boy loves nothing more than to spend time with his humans. His love language is touch so he is very affectionate and never turns down the chance to have a belly rub, ear scratch, or a cuddle session. Don't worry - he's not a stage five clinger though and will respect your personal space if needed. He is laid back, go with the flow kind of guy that doesn't require a ton of physical activity to keep him happy. He loves to just lounge around on a comfy couch or sunbathe outside in the grass as his human is doing things around the house. He is a bit on the sensitive side and can be a little shy at first when meeting new people, but he quickly warms up to them if offered of a yummy treat. He warms up very quickly to new dogs he meets and is very polite when making a new doggy friend. He is the perfect companion for someone that lives a laid back, low energy lifestyle, and would be great for someone who works from home or is retired that wants a quiet, lower energy dog to keep them company. If you're looking for a pup that provides endless cuddles and unconditional love, Dale is your guy.
Dale is lower energy, so he would be perfectly happy taking shorter leisurely strolls around the block or playing in the backyard with his toys for his daily exercise sessions. Don't ask this boy to run a marathon with you. He much rather would lounge around the house while observing what his humans are up to and sneaking in some cuddles when time permits. He doesn't get "all up in your business" unless he's invited to, so if you want some personal space, he will find a comfy spot on the other side of the couch. He really loves to just hang out on the back porch or in the grass sunbathing on sunny days, and would be great for someone who likes to spend time outside gardening or enjoys hanging out on the back deck enjoying sounds of nature. He's always happy to cuddle up on the couch for nap time after his short exercise sessions and you'll definitely catch him snoring from time to time. He also enjoys playing with his dog friends, but prefers the more laid back dogs that have a similar energy level when playing. If playtime starts to get too intense for his comfort, he will just walk away and find a comfy spot to nap.
Dale is dog and kid friendly. He does well with dogs of all ages and sizes, but prefers calmer, lower energy dogs that will match his play style and that won't try to get too rough when playing with him. He truly doesn't understand his size and can be a bit sensitive. In a fight or flight situation, Dale is 100% flight and avoids conflict at all costs. He is very silly when he's playing with his favorite resident dog in his foster home and likes to sneak in some sweet puppy kisses and pibble nibbles to show her affection. He can be independent but is happy to play or cuddle based on whatever the other dog wants, so he would be great for a family that has another dog that would enjoy the company of a laid back guy like Dale. Although he loves other dogs, he is perfectly fine being a solo dog in the home as long as he gets plenty of time with his human. He has not yet been introduced to cats, but he is pretty laid back and hasn’t shown any signs of prey drive, so it is recommended to do slow intros with baby gates if there are cats in his forever home. His laid back, sweet, and gentle temperament makes him the perfect pup to join a family with older kids that can respect his calm, sweet, sensitive soul. He would do best with kids that are confident around dogs his size and that will respect his boundaries until he warms up to them. Once Dale loves and trusts someone, his devotion is unwavering.
Dale is kennel trained, potty trained and leash trained. He will alert his human when he needs to potty by sitting by the back door and will cry if he really needs to go. He currently sleeps on the couch at night in his foster home but he will sleep in a kennel at night with no fuss. This cuddle bug would really love nothing more than to sleep with his human so he can get more cuddles in while you sleep. He is not destructive at all when he is left out of the kennel and you can usually find him in the same spot on the couch in the morning when you wake up. He does well walking on a leash and doesn’t pull during walks. He is happy going on shorter walks on nature trails or around the neighborhood, but would prefer not to be in a loud, busy area like in a large city setting.
His ideal home environment would be a house with a fenced in backyard that he can sunbathe and play in. He would do well in an apartment, townhouse or condo as long as he has a human home majority of the day that can take him out for a few short walks per day to enjoy the sunshine or let him sunbathe on the patio while you’re working from home. He would love to have another friendly dog in his forever home, but he’s perfectly fine being the only dog, too. He is a sensitive boy, so dog parks with random dogs that may be too high of energy or that will be too rough in their play styles are not recommended (he just won't have fun and will sit there and pout until you take him home).
Dale is in a foster home in South Texas and will be transported once adopted.
If you are interested in adopting Dale, please fill out an application at: /adoption-application.
TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back.
Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets. *Applications with electric fences will not be approved for the safety of the dog*
The total cost to adopt is $530, which includes a $300 adoption fee and a $230 transport fee. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, neuter procedure, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormer, and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian.
